St. Paul (April 15, 2011)

The Mauer Family is teaming up with other Minnesota families
and local sponsors for the second annual Mauer Cup,
a youth baseball tournament (July 16 – July 30, 2011) benefitting
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and local Little League organizations.

To raise funds, participating kids will once again sell raffle tickets
for a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox donated by Mauer Chevrolet. And, this year
the tournament is introducing Mauer Cup Brats in Minnesota grocery stores
as a permanent source of funds to benefit many more children in need.

The mission of the Mauer Cup “Kids Playing for Kids” tournament is two-fold:
to raise awareness of youth afflicted with diseases like cancer, and to teach kids
the rewards of working to raise funds for important causes.

“We have been very blessed – with three active boys, the only medical concerns we had to deal with
were bumps, bruises and the occasional set of stitches, but we never had to face anything
as serious as childhood cancer,” Teresa Mauer says.
“That’s why we’re trying to help these children and their families through this
baseball tournament, by getting kids playing for kids.”

The inaugural tournament was a great success with over 1,000 participants,
tens of thousands of spectators at the fields and even more listening to
the championship game broadcast LIVE on WCCO Radio.
Tournament organizers expect this year’s tournament to double.

Delicious Mauer Cup Brats, developed by Michelbob’s Championship Ribs Company,
were served and enjoyed throughout the tournament and featured by Teresa and Jake Mauer on Kare 11’s morning show in February. Now, proceeds
from the sale of these brats will provide a permanent fund-raising base.

Two Mauer Cup brats are being introduced: The Cheesy Cheddar and the Big Smokey.
Both are fully-cooked pork sausages packed in natural casings and loaded with flavor.
Produced in Michelbob’s world-class smoking facility, these sausages
will be sold in 14oz. packages at participating grocery stores.

“We deeply appreciate the donations and support of The Mauer Cup from our grocery partners
last year, Festival Foods and Lunds & Byerly’s, and this year we hope the entire Minnesota
grocery community will get behind us and make these products available
to their customers,” said Teresa and Jake Mauer.
“It’s a Twin Win – Great Food for a Great Cause!”

“All you have to do is try them and you’ll be hooked like I was,” Jake added.
“I love the Big Smokey and Teresa loves the Cheesy Cheddar
and both of us feel these will become all-time Minnesota favorites.”
